The feedback we've received on the matrix tag (added in version 6) is that it sucks. This feedback includes that 1) It doesn't provided the needed and functionality and 2) It is overly complicated. So we would like to totally redesign the matrix tag for version 7. The hard part of the work exists in the code in the engine that handles the tag. What we need to rework is how the user sets up a matrix/cross-tab.

So my question to you is, how should the matrix tag be set. Forget the existing system, in a perfect world what would be best. What we want is an approach that is simple & intuitive. And one where you are formatting the rows and columns in Word/Excel/PPT, not setting their format in a ginat properties page.
